Winter 2023 Happenings

“For plants and animals, winter is part of the job. The same is true for humans”. Wintering by Katherine May

This is the time of year we use to rest, restore and plan. Our garlic is overwintering, our animals are taking it slow, and our ground is dormant and regenerating on its own with the help of cover crops and horse manure that was spread in the fall.

We have also had some exciting action here this month with the birth of some very cute tiny piglets. Miss Fern gave birth to 5 beautiful babies – two boys and one girl. Sadly one was a stillbirth. She birthed completely unassisted and with grace. As you probably can understand, being a first-time mom comes with a learning curve. Unfortunately, one of the piglets was crushed the following day. So we are down to 3 strong healthy babes.

These piglets will be available to purchase and will have a butcher date of March of 2024. If you’re interested in purchasing a piglet to raise on your own, they will be ready to go in April or May.

*Please note that our last two litters are already sold and we expect these to go fast as well. So if you’re wanting to purchase a whole hog for your freezer, I would recommend placing your deposit asap.
